Ohmygosh... FINALLY.

Ok, so I think I bought the big kiln way back in October or November... when it was on sale. It shipped here mid-December, and it's been living in the shop in it's crate since then. I finally said "Brian, I think it's time." Time to move the motorcycles OUT of the basement, and time to move the big kiln INTO the basement. Speaking of the big kiln, I've named it. :) It's name is Helios, and the little kiln is Helios Jr. (Thanks Mel!) In Greek mythology, Helios is the young god of the sun. Each morning, Helios rises from the ocean in the east and rides his chariot pulled by four horses to descend in the west at night. I went looking for the Greek god of fire, but that was Hephaestus, and that's hard to say. I like Helios better. :)

SO, we moved some things around, I did some organizing (Brian calls it feng shui-ing) of the studio.. moved tables around, threw out a bunch of junk. We burned the big stick pile in the ditch along with months and months of 'business papers'... stuff with account info and whatnot on it. After the credit card fiasco in January, I now burn everything with my name on it. :)

The Kawasaki, leaving the building.

The Kawasaki has LEFT the building, and it will no longer reside in the basement for winter, as we have a nice paved shop floor now and it's all sealed up so it can live outside, where motorcycles are supposed to live.

This is how we got Helios from the shop to the walkout door... one ring at a time in the back of the pickup. The last ring and base was a troublemaker. I called our neighbors for help and then they got here right as Brian figured out how to take the thing apart so we ended up moving it ourselves. Thanks for the visit anyhow, Jane! :)

Helios in pieces on cardboard out in the yard...

Helios reassembled in the kiln room! Man, check out all the wiring.. I'm glad my husband knows what he's doing. I'm afraid I'd screw that up in no time if I were in charge of it.

Helios, you're so big and shiny. I ♥ you. I like how every time I take your photo with a flash, you reflect shininess on the walls. :)

Tables with drying pots in the kiln room. One of the major bonuses of having a drying space with a door is that my rather acrobatic tiger stripped kitty can't jump on drying pots like she did last week. Eventually I hope to have some shelves in here.

Soap dishes, widgets, and buttons from the firing on Saturday...

A groovy star widget.

And a funny little thing... The Easter bunny went to my Dad's house and Gabber found an Easter egg with a little... uh, rider.

Helios is a beauty! I thought I was the only one who named my kiln, mine is named Shadrack.

I feel your pain.... I am a packrat as well. I have stuff from 40 yrs ago, that I have packed and carried halfway around the globe - literally!
However, they are mostly things that are one of a kind items. I say, if you have two containers of stuff - toss it! Those nice wooden kitchen toys are a different story. Unless Dad would be willing to build new ones - I would sand them down and refinish. You can't buy sturdy stuff like that anymore. My opinion (but I love good solid wood stuff),so take it for what it's worth - enough to buy a coffee.

I think naming a kiln is a little like car guys naming their cars 'Betty' or calling it a 'her'. :)

I think helios is an amazing name for a kiln. Especially one so freaking huge. :-)
